I did that!

If you are thinking about new adventures or activities it’s definitely interesting to reflect on previous experiences and to consider revisiting them.  I recommend focusing on the legal ones.  I was made to sing in the school choir (on the basis of headcount and not any talent) but suspect that voluntary participation as an adult might be quite a different experience. It’s hard not to be drawn to the bigger ticket items, but actually retrievers know that it’s the regular slots of doing something you enjoy just for yourself that keep you sane. In the meantime a little day dreaming is also definitely good for the soul, so let’s do both.

If you are going to plan new things to do then you are going to need to consider the things that you have already done and that is what I have done here.  Reading this list is probably going to make you go ‘oh yeah I forgot I did that’….also you’ll then understand why there are some items not on my challenge list that could have been.

  • scuba dived the Great Barrier Reef
  • horse riding tour of Petra
  • hitchhiked in Africa
  • swimming with seals
  • horse riding on the beach
  • waterskiing
  • fed bananas to baby elephants
  • sponsored a child to go to school
  • Victoria Falls
  • grown courgettes
  • clay pigeon shooting
  • abseiling
  • parascending
  • rock climbing
  • clubbing in Ibiza
  • got a puppy
  • Cairo’s Pyramids
  • taken music grades
  • pot holing
  • skied a black run
  • ridden a horse across country

I feel lucky to have some pretty cool stuff on my list and that’s partly thanks to my parents.  Growing up they decided that adventures and experiences were more important than shiny cars and a bigger house so from the age of 5 onwards a holiday would mean a backpack and visits to some amazing places.  Come to think of it, having done all these things in the past no wonder day to day life risks being a bit dull, but then the point is to make it all about the contrast, the exciting stuff is exciting because it isn’t routine.

You could list places you have been and ones you want to visit, or revisit.  Simply ticking a country off a list doesn’t really appeal to me, or at least that’s another game, but visiting a particular city, site or feature is definitely a thing.  I’ve just listed a few of my cooler ones.
