50 books

As part of my 50in50 I will read 50 books in 50 weeks. I’m a fast reader so I think that is doable. I might need your help with what should be my essential reads though πŸ™‚

When it comes to reading I will often just grab anything, particularly when running out the door to catch the train in the morning, so the challenge part of this is to bring a bit more structure to it, to expand my range and I’d like to read more international and women authors. Have you noticed how the ‘best reads’ lists are so very white and male dominated? I’ll back track a bit too, to catch up on classics that I haven’t read (or to be honest don’t remember whether I have or not). I wrote a post about revisiting activities that you have done before and I’m going to revisit some of the books I studied at school, which generally I didn’t like too much so I’m curious to find out what adult me thinks about them!

I really love to read. Heaven for me is actually a bookshop or library. As Holly Golightly says of Tiffany’s “It calms me down right away, the quietness and the proud look of it; nothing very bad could happen to you there.”

I do use a Kindle sometimes but for me holding a real book that just fits into my bag is my preferred option. Using charity shops and libraries keeps the cost down, and also prevents books taking over the house.

To help me get organised in this quest I have signed up to Good Reads where you can follow what I’m reading. I’m under Retrievingme. Come and find me and I’d love to hear your recommendations.
